A series of universe-themed live wallpapers — a churning planet, a drifting whale, a whole solar system — each built as a seamless loop with DIY variants, made to sit quietly on a screen for hours without wearing out its welcome.
The planet piece was inspired by the cover of my favorite post-rock album, and went through countless iterations. At first I used the Redshift renderer to simulate realistic clouds, but the results were mediocre and large, dense cloud masses were hard to produce — the planet itself is enormous, so its churning feels at once minute and vast. In the end I composited cloud footage sampled from video, VDB sequence animations, and some simulated Redshift clouds. The video loops seamlessly.
